Liverpool will clash against Brighton on League Cup after Sunday’s disastrous 4-0 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. This Wednesday’s match will be the first time these two sides have met in over 20 years and their only previous meeting in the League Cup was in the 80s, and Dalglish scored the fourth goal in that game.
This is the first competitive match between these two since a Division One match in 1983, and I don’t think Brighton has been complaining about this. They have only beaten the Reds one time and that was a 1-0 win at Anfield in 1982.
Poyet and his side will be looking to capitalise after Liverpool suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of Tottenham last weekend and they are facing a third defeat in a row after Stoke beat them two weeks ago. Liverpool have recorded 11 wins to Brighton`s 4 in previous head-to-head meetings. There have also been 8 draws in their 23 encounters.
