When it comes to the world of smartphones, there is no doubt that the Apple iPhone as well as plethora of Android-powered devices rule the roost. There is a growing band of Windows Phone users, I believe, but those are still not that many that they make up a majority in order to have a say in things. Some smartphone manufacturers like Samsung and HTC have flirted with both sides, offering Android as well as Windows Phone devices (although Samsung too have their very own bada OS to think about), and this time around we see Samsung yield to Microsoft’s bidding with the announcement of the spanking new Samsung Focus 2.
It is said that the Samsung Focus 2 will hit the markets later this month on May 20th, where it will be accompanied by a $49.99 price tag, although this would mean you will have to stick to a two-year service agreement with AT&T. No matter though, there is always the option to “fly” along online on AT&T’s speedy 4G LTE network if the place you happen to work and live at is covered.
Initial impressions of the Samsung Focus 2 have been nothing short of positive, where it might feel a wee bit shorter as well as squatter compared to its predecessor, but the handset is now far more ergonomic than usual, and is a comfort to reside in your hand, not to mention not taking up too much space in your pockets as well.
As for the hardware aspect, there is not much that has changed from its predecessor, although the upgrades introduced into the Focus 2 is more than notable. We are talking about a 5-megapixel camera that is said to perform admirably well – far better than the original, while other specifications include retaining the 4” Super AMOLED display while sporting 8GB of onboard storage that cannot be expanded further. A front-facing VGA camera will complete the handset, and it comes in a beautiful pearl white shade. Will this eat into Nokia’s attempt at making sure they control the entry level Windows Phone market? Only time will tell.
